Explanation
To round to the nearest hundred we look at the digit in the tens place. If it is less than 5, the hundreds stay and the places after them become 0: 3 449 ≈ 3 400. If it is 5 or more, the hundreds go up by 1: 4 782 ≈ 4 800 and 2 950 ≈ 3 000.
Worked examples
4 782: the tens digit is 8, so 4 782 ≈ 4 800.
3 449: the tens digit is 4, so 3 449 ≈ 3 400.
