Reading and writing multi-digit numbers (continued)
Textbook: Part 1, lesson 13, pp. 40–42
GoalKnow how place values relate to each other; multiply numbers by 10, 100 and 1 000.
New words
thousand (as a unit) · minglikhundred (as a unit) · yuzlikmultiplication · ko‘paytirishadding zeros · nol qo‘shish
Explanation
1 ten = 10 ones; 1 hundred = 10 tens = 100 ones; 1 thousand = 10 hundreds = 100 tens = 1 000 ones; 1 million = 1 000 thousands = 1 000 000 ones. When we multiply by 10, 100 or 1 000 we write 1, 2 or 3 zeros at the end.
Worked examples
34 hundreds = 34 × 100 = 3 400 ones; 27 thousands = 27 000 ones.
17 × 10 000 = 170 000; 640 × 100 = 64 000.
