GoalKnow the rules for comparing multi-digit numbers.
New words
comparison · taqqoslashgreater · kattasmaller · kichikhighest place · yuqori xona
Explanation

If the numbers have different amounts of digits, the one with more digits is greater. If they have the same number of digits, compare place by place from the highest: the number with the greater digit in the first place where they differ is greater. Signs: > (greater), < (smaller), = (equal).

Worked examples
46 215 < 462 150 because a 5-digit number is smaller than a 6-digit number.
5 370 < 5 730: thousands are equal (5), hundreds: 3 < 7.
Class activity

“Greater or smaller?”: two children write three- or four-digit numbers on the board. The class shows the sign “>” or “<” with their arms (the open side faces the greater number).
