Textbook: Part 1, lesson 15, pp. 46–48
GoalWrite a number as a sum of its place values.
New words
place-value addend · xona qo‘shiluvchisiexpanded form · yoyilmazero digit · nol raqamten thousand · o‘n minglik
Explanation

To write a number as a sum of place values, make one addend for each non-zero digit: after the digit write as many zeros as there are digits after it. Zero digits give no addend.

Worked examples
52 846 = 50 000 + 2 000 + 800 + 40 + 6.
270 006 = 200 000 + 70 000 + 6 (there are zeros in the tens, hundreds and thousands places).
Class activity

“Build the number”: each child gets cards 100 000, 10 000, 1 000, 100, 10, 1. The teacher says a number and the child picks the right cards to lay out its expanded form.
