Adding (6 + 25)
Textbook: Part 1, lesson 21, pp. 46–47
GoalLearn to add by swapping the addends (6 + 25).
New words
swapping places · o‘rin almashtirishaddend · qo‘shiluvchithe bigger one · kattasicanteen / kitchen · oshxona
Explanation
If the addends swap places the sum does not change: 6 + 25 = 25 + 6. So we write the bigger number first and add the smaller one to it: 25 + 6 = 31. This makes the calculation easier.
Worked examples
8 + 32 = 32 + 8 = 40.
9 + 14 = 14 + 9 = (14 + 6) + 3 = 23.
Class activity
“Swappers”: two children hold number cards and swap places. The class checks that the sum stays the same.
