The procedure and conditions of marriage
Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
Make a list of circumstances that prevent marriage and write one reason for each.
Another marriage — monogamy; close kinship — medical and moral reasons; incapacity — inability to give conscious consent.
2
Why must marriage be voluntary and registered? Write 4–5 sentences.
Voluntariness protects the parties’ rights, while registration proves the marriage and secures rights to property, children and inheritance; that is why the state records it.
3
A 17-year-old girl and a 19-year-old man apply to the registry office. What response is expected and why?
As a general rule the marriage will not be registered: the age is 18 for both sexes and the girl has not reached it (exceptions are possible only in special cases set by law and by decision of the competent authority).
4
Show the ban by degree of kinship in one table: between whom it applies and between whom it does not.
Ban: parent and child, grandparent and grandchild, full and half siblings, adopter and adopted child. No ban: first cousins and other more distant relatives.
