The Constitution as the legal basis of the state
Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
From a typical day of your life write three rights that the Constitution protects, with an example each.
For example: the right to education (going to school), privacy (letters and phone), freedom of speech and opinion (speaking in class).
2
In what cases is the rule “everything not forbidden is allowed” limited for a citizen? Give two cases.
When others’ rights are violated or public order and safety are harmed; for example, disturbing neighbours with night noise or damaging someone’s property.
3
Why is it a guarantee of citizens’ rights that state power stays within limits set by law? Write 5–6 sentences.
The answer should say: clear powers prevent arbitrariness; a citizen can challenge an official’s action on a legal basis; an unlawful order is not binding; the right to complain to court; so rights work in practice.
4
Ask an adult at home on which date Constitution Day is celebrated and write in one sentence why that day was chosen.
8 December, because the Constitution was adopted on 8 December 1992.
