About the excerpt from “Ikki eshik orasi”
According to the textbook, “Ikki eshik orasi” (“Between Two Doors”) was written in 1986; it has seven parts and forty-seven chapters, and the stories of nine characters unite the events. The writer condemns war and its inhuman essence; that war wounded the heart of every parent is the novel’s universal pathos. Orif Oqsoqol is humane, respected, truthful and brave; he follows the folk saying “a brave man must have a belt”, and measures people by loyalty, faithfulness to promises and good deeds. Husan Duma is a simple, plain farmer. Qora amma is kind, plain-hearted and enduring; the figure of an Uzbek mother of wartime. She lost six children, saw her only son Kimsan off to war; not believing in his death, she waits and holds no mourning. Her brother Shomurod’s wife Ra’no betrayed him and fell for the trickery of the lawyer Umar; Qora amma does not forgive her. Robiya, orphaned of her mother young, is a pure-hearted, hard-working girl; she loved Kimsan and waited for him faithfully for years. The textbook stresses the novel’s great educational value and recommends comparing it with your own time.
In pairs, write one trait and one proof (from the text) for each of Orif Oqsoqol, Qora amma and Robiya.
