“Chimyon esdaliklari”
“Chimyon esdaliklari” (“Memories of Chimyon”) is the poet’s poem on a mountain landscape. According to the textbook, the poet paints the mountain scene like an artist: to a person who has climbed, the sky seems near, and clouds form various shapes. Even in summer heat, lines of snow are visible in the gorges, so summer, winter and spring are present at the same moment; the poet says spring and summer come out to greet him. Spring moves from mountain to mountain with a tulip cup in its hand – a comparison no one else would think of. Lakes are likened to stone mirrors. On his way the poet meets flowers he has never seen in his life and is unable to name them. The scene is both wild and peaceful – a contrasting picture. Before nature the poet becomes an innocent child: lying over a spring he drinks his fill. The textbook stresses his wish that nature’s beauty not be trampled. The line about “not troubling art” expresses this wish: nature is an unmatched work of art.
In pairs, write your own 4-line poem about a mountain scene (with at least one comparison) and read it to the class.
