Explanation
Big data and AI work together in many places. First, AI itself: machine learning, and its deeper form deep learning, learn from huge amounts of past data. A weather forecast is one example: the program looks at many records of earlier days and forecasts tomorrow. Second, cyber security. A system watches network traffic and spots unusual patterns, such as the flood of requests you met in Week 4, so that people can react. Third, online shops: a shop website studies which items people look at together and suggests items. Fourth, prediction in general, such as expecting how many students will use the bus. In every use the AI finds patterns, but people decide what to do with the answer.

A weather program has records of two thousand earlier days. It learns that when the wind turns and the sky grows dark, rain often follows. It forecasts rain for tomorrow. The forecast can be wrong, so people check it with new data each hour.
A school network system sees one device sending hundreds of requests a second, much more than usual. It raises a warning to a technician. This connects with Week 4: a sudden flood of requests is a warning sign.
Class activity
Draw a table with the four uses. For each, write what past data it would use and what answer it would give. Choose one use and explain in one sentence why a person must still check the result.
