Explanation
This review lesson uses new tasks to check what you learned in Units 1, 2 and 3. To complete a dialog, follow five steps. 1. Read the whole dialog once. 2. For each gap, read the line before and the line after it. 3. Look at the question type: yes / no questions need Yes, … or No, … answers; how, why and what questions need an explanation. 4. Check the grammar: Have you decided? is answered with Yes, I have.; a question about the future (What will happen if …?) needs a future answer. 5. Read the finished dialog aloud to hear if it sounds natural. To work out a word’s meaning, use the context and the word parts. The prefix mis- means wrongly (misunderstand = understand wrongly); the suffix -ful means full of (helpful); -less means without (careless); -ness, -ion and -ence make nouns (determination, confidence). Look at the example row of the dialog on the right, then do the practice items.

Yasmin
I totally get that. What will happen if the helper makes a mistake?
Fady

Yasmin
Good idea. If we had started last week, we would have finished the slides by now.
Fady
(4) …
Yasmin
For sure. Let’s meet after school tomorrow.

Read the dialog with the gaps (1) to (5). Choose the best line for each gap in the practice section.
How to choose gap (1). The question Have you decided …? is in the present perfect and needs a yes / no answer. The reply must also fit the next line: Yasmin says That’s cool! and asks how an AI helper will be useful, so the reply must name a topic. Only option (a) says that he has decided and names the topic.
Word meaning from parts: misunderstanding = mis- (wrongly) + understanding. It is a problem that happens when someone understands wrongly.
Now you. Say which of the six words in the list describes a time when you tried again after something went wrong.
Class activity
Dialog doctor. Write a short dialog of eight lines between two friends who plan a talk about a technology topic. Cut out the answers of the second speaker and leave gaps. Give your dialog to a grown-up, who chooses the best answers aloud. Check that every answer fits the question and the next line.
