Who am I? Identity words and the main idea
Your identity is everything that makes you the person you are: your name, your family and background, your interests, your values and your strengths. People do not discover all of it at once; self-discovery goes on for many years. Some words need care. A value is a belief that guides how you behave (honesty, patience, kindness), but value can also be a noun for how much something is worth. Your background is where you come from and what has shaped you, not a picture behind you. A strength is a quality or skill that helps you (patience, a good memory), and being confident means you believe you can do something. To find the main idea of a first-person text, ask: what is this person telling me about who they are? Then use the details to prove it. Your book has a first-person text on page 14. Read it after this lesson, say its main idea in one sentence and find two details. The words in this lesson will help you.

My name is Habiba and I am fourteen. My family has lived in the same small town for many years, and my grandfather taught me to make clay pots when I was seven. At school some students think pottery is boring, so at first I felt shy about it. Then I realised that this work is part of my background and that it teaches me patience. Patience is a value that I try to keep in everything I do. Last year I joined the robotics club as well, so now I enjoy both an old craft and new technology. I am still discovering who I am, and I think that is a good thing. My strength is that I do not give up easily, and this makes me more confident every month.
Identity web. Draw a circle with your name in the middle. Around it write five words: one about your family or background, two interests, one value and one strength. Explain the web to a grown-up in four sentences.
