Learning from videos and sharing a skill
ICT P4 Term 2, Theme 3: pp. 18–21
GoalLearn from a step-by-step video and plan how to share a skill safely.
New words
video website · a website where people share videosstep by step · one small part after another, in orderskill · something you can do wellpermission · saying “yes” before something happens
Explanation
A video website lets you learn new things step by step. If you want to learn how to make a healthy snack, you can look, with a grown-up, for a video that shows every step. If you have a skill you like, you could share it too: how to fold a paper boat, or how to draw a camel. Before you share anything online, ask your teacher or a family member. Plan your video on paper first: what will I show, in which order and what will I say? Then check that it is correct, safe and kind, and that it shows nothing private, like your address. Choose videos from reliable places, and check important facts in a second source. Cooking with heat or knives is a job for grown-ups.
Choose a skill→Plan the steps on paper→A grown-up checks it→Share it, with a grown-up
Worked examples
Mariam looks with her father for a video about folding a paper boat. She watches one step at a time and folds her paper along with it.
Karim can draw camels. He plans a short video on paper: what to show first, what to show next, what to say. He asks his teacher before he shares anything, and she helps him check it.
Salma finds a video about a recipe. A grown-up will do the hot parts. Salma sees that the video does not say who made it, so she checks the recipe in a cookbook too.
Class activity
Steps on paper. Choose a skill you know, such as folding a paper hat or drawing a face. Write the steps in order and draw a small picture for each step. Give the paper to a partner. Can your partner follow it without asking you anything? Fix any step that was not clear. (If you have a device, a grown-up could film it. Share it only if a grown-up agrees.)
