Booking, learning and finding help online
In Egypt, digital tools help people in many ways. A family can book train, bus or plane tickets online, so they save time and effort. A grown-up can book tickets to visit a historical or cultural place. Some apps connect a person with the service they need. There is also a free online library, the Egyptian Knowledge Bank, with information on many subjects. The grown-up in the family does the booking and registering, and a child never types the family’s personal details. Before you start, ask: which organisation can help with this? There is one for trains, one for health, one for education and a library for information. Sometimes the best helper is your own school or teacher.
| Situation | Who can help |
|---|---|
| The family wants train tickets for a trip to Luxor | the railway’s booking page (a grown-up books) |
| You want to read about frogs at night | the free online library |
| You want to know the date of your school’s sports day | your school or your teacher |
| A family wants to visit a historical place | the ticket page of that place (a grown-up books) |
Who can help? On six cards write situations (for example: tickets for a train trip, a book about the moon, the date of a school trip). On five other cards write helpers: the railway, the school, the free online library, a health office, a ticket page of a historical place. Mix and match them. Then invent a new situation and say who helps.
