Keep safe with electricity
Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
With an adult, look at the sockets in one room. Look, but do not touch. Tell a grown-up the rule about sockets.
The rule: never touch a wall socket or push anything into it.
2
Play “Safe or not safe?” with a family member. They say five things, such as “drying hands before touching a switch”. You say safe or not safe, and why.
For example: drying hands first is safe; a drink next to a laptop is not safe.
3
Explain to a family member why we dry our hands before touching a switch.
Water lets mains electricity pass through to us, which could give an electric shock.
4
With an adult, look at the cables in your living room. Is any cable lying where people walk? Is any cover torn? Look only, and tell the adult what you find.
Answers will differ. A cable across a path or a torn cover should be fixed by an adult.
5
Teach a younger child one electricity rule.
Any one rule from the lessons.
