Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
Pour a little water on a plastic bag, a paper tissue and a cloth (with an adult). Which keep the water out? Which soak it up?
The plastic bag is waterproof; the tissue and cloth are absorbent.
2
Draw a block graph of the water test: draw three blocks and label them.
Any sensible graph. The most absorbent material should have the tallest block.
3
Name something at home that is waterproof and something that is absorbent. Say how you know.
For example: a raincoat or boot is waterproof; a towel or sponge is absorbent.
4
Tell a grown-up what a fair test is, using the water test as an example.
Change only one thing (the material) and keep the same amount of water, time and size of pieces.
