Textbook: pp. 79–82
GoalRevises the main ideas of both chapters: information and its properties, coding, number systems, units of volume, Internet services and information security.
New words
binary code: information written with only 0 and 1 · ikkilik kodunit of volume: bit, byte, KB, MB, GB · hajm birligiprotocol: agreed rules for sending data · protokolantivirus: a program that protects against malicious software · antivirus
Explanation

Chapter I: information is the meaning received through the senses; a message is its material form; information should be valuable, complete and reliable; we divide information into analog (continuous) and discrete types. Coding is changing information into another form by a rule (uniform and non-uniform). The base of a number system is the number of digits; decimal, binary, octal and hexadecimal systems are positional. Addition, subtraction and multiplication are done in columns with carrying and borrowing. Converting to decimal is the sum of the expanded form; converting from decimal to another base is repeated division with remainders read from bottom to top; between 2, 8 and 16 we use triads and tetrads. A computer codes in binary: N = 2^m; 1 byte = 8 bits; 1 KB = 1024 bytes; speed = volume : time. Chapter II: information technology is the methods and means of working with information; network types are local, regional and global; the Internet is a network of networks with the protocol TCP/IP; the WWW is a system of web pages; a URL is a page address; a browser shows pages; a search system finds pages by keywords and the source must be checked; an email address is name@server; protection means updates, antivirus, strong passwords, caution and turning to adults. When revising, first recall the tables and formulas, then solve examples and check every result.

Worked examples
10110 + 1101 = 100011 (22 + 13 = 35). 205 → binary 11001101, hexadecimal CD (C = 12, D = 13: 12 · 16 + 13 = 205).
Situation: a friend sends a link: “There is a sale here, enter your password.” Conclusion: suspicious; I do not click, I ask the friend by another way (a call) whether they really sent it, and I tell an adult.
Class activity

“Two-chapter quiz”: the class splits into teams. The teacher asks 4 questions from each chapter (formula, conversion, URL, safety situation); a team that answers correctly with a reason scores.

Practice
1
Add 10110₂ + 1101₂ and check the result in decimal.
2
Convert 205 to binary and to hexadecimal.
3
A book has 64 pages, 40 lines per page and 64 characters per line. How many KB is it?
4
Why is the binary system convenient for a computer? And why is an unknown link dangerous? Answer each in one sentence.
