Explanation

A recipe helps us do the job properly. First we measure the ingredients, then we work step by step. This treat needs no cooking, so it suits children, but washing hands and cleanliness are a must. People who are allergic to an ingredient (milk, nuts, flour) should check the ingredients first. We keep the treat in the fridge and eat it in small amounts.

Worked examples
For double the amount: 400 g biscuits instead of 200 g, 80 g butter instead of 40 g.
Class activity

“Biscuit balls” (about 12). Ingredients: 200 g plain dry biscuits, 2 tablespoons cocoa, 40 g soft room-temperature butter, 100 g condensed milk (about 4 tablespoons), 3 tablespoons desiccated coconut or cocoa for rolling. You need: a closable bag, a rolling pin, a big bowl, a spoon, a plate, cling film. Steps: 1) Wash hands with soap and put on an apron. 2) Put the biscuits in the bag, close it and press with the rolling pin into fine crumbs. 3) Mix the crumbs and cocoa in the bowl. 4) Add the soft butter; then add the condensed milk a little at a time and stir well: the mixture should hold together when squeezed. 5) With damp hands shape walnut-sized balls and roll them in coconut. 6) Chill on a plate under cling film in the fridge for 30 minutes. Safety: no heat is used in this recipe; have an adult nearby when using the rolling pin; ask about allergies beforehand; do not keep it longer than 2–3 days.
