A confectionery factory
Sweets such as candies, chocolate, halva, biscuits, wafers and cakes are made in large amounts in confectionery factories. The oldest sweets were made by Egyptians from dates, nuts and honey. In Uzbekistan novvot, poured from sugar syrup, has long been valued, and before Navro‘z sumalak is cooked from sprouted wheat. Chocolate comes from the seeds inside the fruit of the cacao tree: the seeds are roasted and ground, cocoa butter is pressed out of part of them, then cocoa, cocoa butter and sugar are mixed in set amounts, poured into moulds and cooled. Such an exact order is called a recipe: first it lists the ingredients, then the steps of work.
You need: white paper 10×15 cm, coloured pencils, scissors, ruler. Steps: 1) Invent a name for an imaginary chocolate bar. 2) Draw the wrapper design on the paper: the name, a picture, the weight (for example 50 g). 3) On the back write the ingredients (on packs, ingredients are listed from the largest amount to the smallest). 4) Cut it out, fold it and put it on the class display. 5) Ask an adult and write down the recipe of your favourite sweet. Safety: use scissors seated; children with nut or milk allergies must read ingredients carefully; eat sweets in moderation and clean your teeth afterwards.
