Explanation

Divisibility rule for 9: if the sum of the digits is divisible by 9, the number is divisible by 9. Every number divisible by 9 is also divisible by 3, but not the other way round: 12 is divisible by 3 but not by 9. For example, for 7 128 we get 7 + 1 + 2 + 8 = 18, which divides by 9, so 7 128 is divisible by 9.

Worked examples
7 128: 7 + 1 + 2 + 8 = 18 – divisible by 9; 7 128 : 9 = 792.
3 450: 3 + 4 + 5 + 0 = 12 – divisible by 3 but not by 9.
