Decimal places: hundredths

Textbook: Part 3, lesson 103, pp. 101–103
GoalThe hundredths place: changing fractions with denominator 100 into decimals; reading them.
New words
one hundredth · yuzdan birhundredths place · yuzdan birlar xonasitwo-place decimal · ikki xonali kasraccuracy · aniqlik
Explanation

If we split a tenth into 10 equal parts we get a hundredth: 1/100 = 0.01. The second place after the point is the hundredths place. A fraction with denominator 100 becomes a decimal with two digits after the point: 38/100 = 0.38; 5 6/100 = 5.06. To read it, say the whole part, then the fraction part in hundredths: 4.27 is four and twenty-seven hundredths; 8.50 is eight and fifty hundredths; 9.08 is nine and eight hundredths.

Worked examples
7/100 = 0.07, because the hundredths place is the second one and the tenths place gets 0.
23 cm = 23/100 m = 0.23 m.
