Explanation

The 4 times table: 4, 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, 32, 36, 40. A square has 4 equal sides, so its perimeter is P = a × 4. Its area is S = a × a. A square with side 3 cm has perimeter 3 × 4 = 12 cm and area 3 × 3 = 9 cm².
