Metre, decimetre, centimetre

Textbook: Part 2, lesson 58, pp. 38–39
GoalThe unit metre; how metre, decimetre and centimetre are related.
New words
metre (m) · metr (m)decimetre (dm) · detsimetr (dm)centimetre (cm) · santimetr (sm)length · uzunlik
Explanation

We measure large things in metres. 1 m = 10 dm = 100 cm. Every metre has 10 dm and 100 cm: 3 m = 10 + 10 + 10 = 30 dm, 2 m = 100 + 100 = 200 cm. The other way round: 400 cm = 4 m.

Worked examples
5 m = 50 dm = 500 cm.
30 dm and 300 cm are equal because both are 3 m.
Class activity

“Let’s find a metre”: children measure classroom things with a 1 m string: door, board, desk. They list which are longer and which are shorter than 1 m.

Practice
1
3 m = ? dm
2
6 m = ? cm
3
700 cm = ? m
