Explanation

In “Yurtim shamoli” (“The Wind of My Homeland”) the main image is the wind. At the end of each stanza the cry “the wind of my homeland” is repeated. The poet turns his face to many winds and sees now sorrow, now joy in them, but the wind of the homeland is free of sorrow. According to the textbook, the wind is a symbol of different states, changes, sorrow and joy; it can lay gardens waste, and slander too is a “wind” that throws a person’s life off course. The poet wishes his homeland to flourish. The most important thought: life is a flowering valley; a person comes to it like the wind and goes like the wind; yet “Abdulla’s lasting perfection” is the hope that the poet’s spiritual world will be mature. In “Birinchi muhabbatim” (“My First Love”) the lyrical hero, on an evening when the moon set, remembers his first love: youth passed with joy and tumult, but he lost that feeling in heedlessness. He regrets (“why did I not know before”), says love is a support for people, but recalls that he himself has no one to lean on. According to the textbook the poem echoes Navoiy’s wisdom about love; in the last line the idea of love of God ties it to the world of the classical poets.
