GoalTell high, middle and low sounds apart, and loud (f) from quiet (p); listen to autumn sounds.
New words
high sound · baland tovushlow sound · past tovushloud (f) · fortequiet (p) · piano
Explanation
Musical sounds can be high, middle or low: a mouse squeaks high, a bear growls low. Music can also be loud or quiet — this is called volume. Loud is marked f (forte), quiet is p (piano); both words come from Italian. Bizet’s “Morning in the Mountains” sounds quiet, while Beethoven’s “Thunderstorm” sounds loud.
Worked examples
In autumn: rustling leaves — p (quiet); thunder — f (loud).
Class activity
“Teremok voices”: children voice the fairy-tale characters — mouse and frog in a high voice, wolf and bear in a low voice. Then the teacher holds up an f or p card and children clap loudly or quietly.
