Explanation
The music of “Jo‘jalarim” was written by the Azerbaijani composer Gambar Huseynli and the words by Tofiq Mutallibov. The song has been translated into hundreds of languages. Before singing we warm up the voice lightly with “koo-koo-koo”, “mee-mee-mee”. Chicks run fast; the mother hen walks slowly.
Worked examples
Chick rhythm (fast): ti-ti ti-ti ta; hen rhythm (slow): ta — ta —
Class activity
“Hen and chicks”: when the teacher beats slowly on a doira (frame drum) or claps, children walk heavily like hens; when the beat is fast, they take tiny running steps like chicks.
