A blog about a habitat: causes and effects
A habitat is the natural home of animals and plants. Habitats can be a desert, a forest, a mountain or the sea. A cause is why something happens, and an effect is the result. We join ideas with and (adds), but (shows a difference), because (gives a cause) and so (gives an effect): Turtles can swallow plastic because it looks like food. There is litter on the beach, so animals are in danger. In a blog we say what the habitat is, what animals live there, what we must and mustn’t do and what will happen if we help. Look at the book’s page 68 for ideas. Here is our own short blog about a sea habitat.

|---|---|---|
| Plastic is in the sea. | Fish can be hurt. | so |
| We recycle paper. | Fewer trees are cut. | so |
| Turtles eat plastic | it looks like food. | because |
| The sea is blue and calm, | some waves are big. | but |
My habitat blog: the sea. The sea is the home of fish, turtles and coral. Some animals are very small, but they are important. Plastic in the sea is a problem because animals can swallow it. We must put our litter in a bin, so the beach stays clean. If we recycle plastic bottles, less plastic will go into the sea. I hope more children will help!
Blog workshop. The child chooses a habitat and writes a blog of 60 to 80 words. It says what the habitat is, which animals live there, one thing we must or mustn’t do, and a first conditional sentence. Use and, but, because and so at least once each. A grown-up reads it and marks the cause and effect sentences.
