Clever, shy, messy: describing personality
Looks tell us what a person looks like: tall, short, curly hair, brown eyes. Personality tells us what a person is like inside: friendly, funny, calm, clever or polite. We use is or are with an adjective, and we can add very: He is very clever. She is really polite. Some people are shy with new friends, and that is fine. Some people are messy now but can become more organised. Everyone is different, and we speak about people kindly. Use but to show a difference: She is shy, but she is very kind.
Which boy is Khaled?

I am a little shy with new people.
Don’t worry. He is shy at first too, but he is kind.

She is also funny, and she makes her friends laugh. She is a little nervous before a test, but she is never unkind. Her friends say she is the most polite girl in the class.
