Term 1 review: parties, journeys and quantities
Today we review Term 1. In Units 4, 5 and 6 we learned party words, travel words and words for quantities. For a party we say: blow up balloons, hang up streamers, decorate a cake, send invitations. A grown-up lights candles and lets off fireworks, never a child. For journeys we say: travel by train, sail by ship, ride a camel, go on a voyage. We use the past simple for finished actions: went, took, saw, made. For the present continuous we say what is happening now: They are decorating the cake. For quantities we say How many eggs? and How much water?, and we answer with a few, a little or a lot of. Listen to Yara’s story and find the past simple verbs.
Last summer Yara’s family went to Aswan by train. The journey took a whole day. In Aswan they sailed in a small boat on the Nile and saw many birds. Yara’s brother made a drawing of the boat. In the evening they had fish and rice for dinner. They didn’t see a camel, but Yara rode a donkey. She felt happy and tired.
How many balloons do we have?
We have a lot of balloons, but only a few streamers.
How much juice do we need?
A litre is enough, and a little for the guests who want more.
Review race. The grown-up has a timer. The child says as many party words, travel words and quantity words as possible in one minute. Then the child says three sentences with went, took and made.
