Explanation

A presentation is a short, clear talk. Listen for the main idea and the key words. In our presentation the key words are copper, bronze, gold, trade and economy. Copper is a red-brown metal, and bronze is made from copper and tin. Bronze is harder than copper, so it is good for tools and weapons. Gold is soft and shiny, so it is good for jewellery. Trade means buying, selling or swapping goods, and trade helps the economy of a country. Many materials, such as clay, glass and stone, are not metals. Metals are usually hard, shiny and strong.

Worked examples

Metals in Ancient Egypt. People in Egypt used metal thousands of years ago. At first they used copper. They found it in the Sinai desert, and they made tools and jewellery from it. Later they mixed copper with tin to make bronze, which is harder, and they made stronger tools and weapons. Gold was soft and shiny, so craftsmen made it into beautiful jewellery. The Egyptians also traded. They sent grain and cloth to other lands, and they brought back things they needed, such as wood. Trade helped the economy, which means the way a country makes and uses goods and money.
