Units 7–9: a museum blog and the past
A blog is written by one person who says what they did and what they think. Use the past simple for what happened (we went, we saw) and the present simple for facts (the room is big). Use intensifiers such as very, really and quite to make adjectives stronger: very old, really interesting, quite small. Start with when and where, say what you saw, and finish with an opinion. The book’s review has a blog about a favourite statue and some questions: Where? When? What? Read it with a grown-up. Here is our own blog about an invented small museum and a stone ibis.
| Question | Our blog |
|---|---|
| Where? | a small town museum |
| When? | last Saturday |
| What? | a stone ibis, a bird with a long beak |
| Opinion? | really interesting |
Last Saturday my family visited a small museum in our town. The museum is quite old and very quiet. I saw a stone ibis near the door. It had a long curved beak and it was really beautiful. A guide told us that the bird was made a very long time ago. We didn’t touch it because that is a rule. Then we drew pictures of it. It was an amazing day!
| Word | Meaning |
|---|---|
| very quiet | quiet, in a strong way |
| really beautiful | beautiful, in a strong way |
| quite old | old, but not extremely |
Blog writing. The child writes a blog of six to eight sentences (about 60 words) about a museum, a park or a market. Answer Where? When? What? Use at least two past simple verbs, one negative with didn’t and two intensifiers. A grown-up reads it and asks one question.
