Leaves, seeds and ecosystems
Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
Draw a leaf with arrows showing what goes in (water, carbon dioxide, light) and what comes out (glucose, oxygen).
Three arrows go in and two come out, each labelled.
2
Find a seed or a fruit at home (a date stone, a bean, a pip). Guess how it could travel and say why.
Answers differ, for example: a date stone is dropped by an animal that eats the fruit.
3
A paper model seed is dropped three times and lands 80 cm, 100 cm and 90 cm away. Find the average distance.
(80 + 100 + 90) ÷ 3 = 270 ÷ 3 = 90 cm.
4
List four living and four nonliving things in a place near your home. Write one way two of them affect each other.
Answers differ, for example: rain gives a plant water; a plant gives an insect a place to hide.
5
Write what you wonder about how a hawk gets its energy. Write three “I wonder” questions.
Answers differ, for example: What does a hawk eat? How far does it hunt? Where does it rest?
