Объяснение
When air from the lungs makes the vocal cords vibrate, voice is made. When air meets the tongue, teeth or lips, noise is made. Voiced consonants have both voice and noise: b, d, g, v, z, j, g‘, l, m, n, r, y, ng. Voiceless consonants have only noise: p, t, k, f, s, sh, x, q, h, ch.
Примеры
b, z, d — if we put a finger on our throat, we feel a vibration (voiced).
p, s, t — we hardly feel any vibration (voiceless).
Работа в классе
“Finger test”: children put a finger on their throat and say b, z, m, then p, s, k. They group the sounds that make a vibration as voiced.
