Adjectives and gender

Russian A1 · Unit 9
GoalMatch the ending of the adjective to a feminine, neuter or plural noun.
New words
но́вая (nóvaya) · new (f)но́вое (nóvoye) · new (n)но́вые (nóvyye) · new (pl)больша́я (bolʹsháya) · big (f)большо́е (bolʹshóye) · big (n)больши́е (bolʹshíye) · big (pl)хоро́шая (khoróshaya) · good (f)хоро́шее (khorósheye) · good (n)
Explanation

The adjective copies the gender of the noun. Masculine: но́вый дом. Feminine: но́вая кни́га. Neuter: но́вое окно́. Plural: но́вые кни́ги. With большо́й the stress stays on the ending: больша́я, большо́е, больши́е. After г, к, х, ж, ш, ч and щ we write и, not ы: хоро́шие, ма́ленькие. The neuter ending is usually -oye (но́вое), but after ш without stress it is spelled -eye: хоро́шее письмо́.
