Arabic A2 · Unit 10
GoalGive advice with يَجِب أَنْ and يَنْبَغِي أَنْ.
New words
يَجِب أَنْ (yajib ʾan) · one must, you mustيَنْبَغِي أَنْ (yanbaghī ʾan) · one should, you shouldيَحْتَاج إِلَى (yaḥtāj ʾilā) · he needsرَاحَة (rāḥa) · restنَوْم (nawm) · sleepرِيَاضَة (riyāḍa) · sport, exerciseيَغْسِل (yaghsil) · he washes
Explanation

To say “must” we use يَجِب أَنْ, and to say “should” we use يَنْبَغِي أَنْ. After them we put a present verb that matches the person: تَنَام for “you”, أَنَام for “I”, نَنَام for “we” and يَنَام for “he”. We use these chunks ready-made and do not change them. To say “need” we use يَحْتَاج إِلَى and a noun: هُوَ يَحْتَاج إِلَى رَاحَة. To say “should not”, put لَا before: لَا يَنْبَغِي أَنْ تَأْكُل كَثِيرًا.
