Explanation

Booking and paying for rides online has become popular. One transport company can serve very many people together, and riders can use the service from any place, at any hour. A passenger can book a ride through the company’s page, or sometimes by messaging, and then pay online. One way to pay is with a mobile wallet, an app for keeping money. It can send and receive money, pay bills, book tickets and pay for services. Children do not use wallets or pay for anything; they use a wallet only on paper. To choose between two services, make a comparison table. Write the questions down the side: can you book online? Can you pay online? Can you choose a seat? What extra services are there? Then fill in what each service offers. Compare the answers and decide which is better for your needs. Always ask a grown-up before using any online service.

Why is it popular? Seif lives far from the station. He can book a seat from home at any time, even at night, and many other people can book at the same moment. This saves time and walking.

A wallet on paper. A mobile wallet keeps money inside an app. Four things it can do are written on cards: send money, receive money, pay a bill, book a ticket.
Choosing between two imaginary services. Service A lets you pay online but not choose a seat. Service B lets you choose a seat but not pay online. Jana needs to choose a seat for her grandmother, so she picks Service B.
Class activity

Compare two services. Invent two transport services, for example a minibus service and a boat service on the Nile. Draw a comparison table with these questions: can you book online? Can you pay online? Can you choose a seat? What extra services are there? Fill in both columns and write one sentence: which service is better for a family with a baby, and why? Nothing here needs a device.
