Term 1 review
Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
Draw a food chain with four links from a farm or the Nile. Put arrows from the food to the eater and label the producer.
For example: water plant → small fish → big fish → heron. The water plant is the producer.
2
A bottle of water has a volume of 1500 mL. How many litres is that? How many 250 mL cups can it fill?
1500 mL = 1 L and 500 mL, which is 1.5 L (one and a half litres). 1500 ÷ 250 = 6 cups.
3
Explain in your own words why a closed jar of salt water keeps its mass but an open dish in the sun loses mass.
In the closed jar nothing can leave. In the open dish, water evaporates and the vapour escapes into the air.
4
Name three physical changes and three chemical changes from your kitchen.
Answers differ. Physical: melting ice, cutting a tomato, stirring sugar into tea. Chemical: baking bread, cooking an egg, a banana going brown.
5
Write one thing you learned this term that surprised you, and one question you still have.
Answers differ. Any honest answer about plants, food webs, particles or changes is fine.
