Discover Mathematics: Chapter 2
GoalSay the number that is one more and the number that is one less than a number from 1 to 10.
New words
one more · the next number when we count upone less · the number just before when we countbetween · in the middle of two numbers
Explanation
When we count up, the next number is one more. One more than 6 is 7. When we count back, the next number is one less. One less than 6 is 5. To find one more, add one thing to the group and count again. To find one less, take one thing away and count what is left. The numbers around 6 are 5, 6 and 7.
Worked examples

One more than 9 is 10. One less than 9 is 8. Nine is between 8 and 10.
