Ten and some more

Discover Mathematics: Chapter 3
GoalCount, read and write 11, 12 and 13 as ten and some more.
New words
eleven · ten and one moretwelve · ten and two morethirteen · ten and three more
Explanation

After ten comes eleven. Eleven is ten and one more. Twelve is ten and two more. Thirteen is ten and three more. On two ten-frames, we fill the first frame with ten counters and put the rest on the second frame. We write these numbers with two digits. The 1 on the left means one group of ten. The digit on the right tells how many more.

Worked examples
Twelve is ten and two more. The first frame is full and there are 2 counters on the second frame.
Thirteen is ten and three more. Count: 10 on the first frame, then 11, 12, 13.
