Types of nervous activity; hygiene of the nervous system
People differ in the strength, balance and mobility of excitation and inhibition: Pavlov distinguished types of nervous activity on this basis; in the ancient description they were called choleric, sanguine, phlegmatic and melancholic. These do not divide people into good or bad: most have mixed features, and character changes with upbringing and experience. Nervous-system hygiene: a daily routine (study, rest, sleep), movement and walks, proper nutrition, alternating mental and physical work, limiting screen time, talking to friends and interesting activities. When tired, take breaks and ask for help. Alcohol and drugs enter nerve cells and upset the balance of excitation and inhibition: accuracy of movement and speech worsens, attention, memory and judgement fall, and dependence develops. The brains of children and teenagers are still growing, so they are especially harmed. Tobacco, nicotine, vapes and energy drinks also harm the nervous system. If someone offers you such a substance, you have the right to say “no”; tell adults. A person who is dependent can be helped by a doctor and close people.
Daily-routine table: plan times for a school day – lessons, lunch, homework, activity, screen, sleep. Write total screen time and add 1 way to reduce it. Prepare 2 sentences for saying “no”.
