Final review
Administratively Uzbekistan consists of 12 regions, the Republic of Karakalpakstan and the city of Tashkent. Naturally it is divided into 11 districts. They do not match the administrative division exactly, but mostly as follows: the Fergana district — Fergana, Andijan and Namangan regions; Mirzachol — Syrdarya and Jizzakh; Middle Zarafshan — Samarkand and Navoi; Lower Zarafshan — Bukhara; Kashkadarya and Surkhandarya — the regions of the same names; Chirchiq-Ohangaron — Tashkent region and Tashkent city; Lower Amudarya — Khorezm and southern Karakalpakstan; Ustyurt, the Aral and part of the Kyzylkum — mainly Karakalpakstan. Remember for review: desert is about 70 percent of the territory; the highest point of Uzbekistan is Hazrat Sultan (4643 m); the longest river is the Syrdarya and the most water-rich the Amudarya; the Aral Sea dried up and the Aralkum appeared; the main ecological problems are water and air pollution, soil salinisation and erosion, and the decline of plant and animal species. Solutions are saving natural resources, treatment plants, reserves and the Red Data Book.
“Quiz game”: in groups write 10 questions on the 11 districts and answer each other’s; topics: height, climate, river, reserve, ecological problem.
