The Kashkadarya natural-geographic district
The Kashkadarya district lies in the south of Uzbekistan. Its northern boundary runs along the Karatepa, Zirabulak and Ziyovuddin mountains, its western along the Jarkak, Mubarek and Dengizkul uplands; in the south and south-west the Sandykli sands separate it from Turkmenistan, and in the east the Hisar and in the south-east the Baysun mountains separate it from Surkhandarya. In the north-east lie the western continuations of the Zarafshan range — Chakilkalon (Zebon peak 2336 m), Karatepa (2197 m), Zirabulak and Ziyovuddin; in the east the Hisar range and its continuations Hazrat Sultan, Chakchar and Baysun. Where Hisar and Chakchar join are small glaciers such as Botirboy and Seversev. The mountains fall westward to the Kitab-Shakhrisabz depression, the adir and the plain. In the west are the Karshi desert and oasis, in the north the Karnab and Jom, and in the south-east the Nishon deserts. The mountains rose in the Paleozoic Hercynian folding; karst developed in gypsum-and-limestone Chakilkalon, with deep caves. The plain lies on the eastern edge of the Turan plate. There are deposits of gas, oil, marble, gypsum, feldspar and building materials.
“Border map”: on the map mark the boundaries of the Kashkadarya district on 4 sides (north, west, south, east) with coloured lines and write the neighbouring features.
