Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
From the atlas find a physical, a political and a thematic map and write each one’s title and scale.
The answer depends on the atlas; the scale should be written as 1 : … or “1 cm to … km”.
2
On the scale 200–500 m is yellow and above 500 m brown. What colour is a plateau at 750 m, and how many metres is it above 500 m?
Brown; it is 750 – 500 = 250 m above 500 m.
3
Draw your own signs for 5 features (river, city, road, swamp, mountain).
The drawing is the student’s own; signs should be simple and distinguishable.
4
Why does a globe give a more accurate shape than a map but is less convenient?
A globe is spherical like the Earth, so it has no distortions; but it is small, bulky to carry and cannot show detail.
