Explanation
In this unit we learned division (also with a remainder), shares and fractions, finding part of a number, proper, improper and mixed fractions, showing fractions on the number ray and comparing them. In harder problems, drawing a diagram and finding the parts step by step helps.
Worked examples
95 : 8 = 11 remainder 7; 3/4 of 28 is 28 : 4 × 3 = 21.
23/6 = 3 5/6 and 2 4/7 = 18/7.
Class activity
“Fractions relay”: teams take turns at the board to do one task each (reading a fraction, changing to a mixed number, finding a part, comparing). The team with the most correct answers wins.
