Percussion instruments

Textbook pp. 48–49
GoalGet to know percussion instruments: the doira and the tambourine; repeat rhythms by tapping.
New words
beat, strike · zarbdoira (frame drum) · doiratambourine · bubenskin, leather · teri
Explanation

With percussion instruments, the sound is made by striking with fingers or a special stick. The doira is an old national instrument made of skin stretched tightly over a wooden ring. The tambourine (buben) is similar: a wooden ring with skin. Percussion instruments keep the rhythm of a tune.

Worked examples
Doira rhythm: “boom, boom, tak-tak, boom” = ta ta ti-ti ta.
Class activity

“Echo”: the teacher taps a rhythm on the desk or knees (ta ta ti-ti ta). Children repeat it exactly. Then one child invents a rhythm and the class echoes it.
