Order the events: irregular past verbs
Regular verbs make the past simple with -ed. Irregular verbs change: come – came, give – gave, eat – ate, sit – sat, hear – heard, fly – flew, take – took, catch – caught, throw – threw. You must learn these. Events in a story come in order, and we use first, next, then, after that, finally. To put events in order, look for time clues and ask: what must happen before this? Part 2 of our story uses nine irregular verbs. Read it and put the events in order. Read the book’s ten events on page 96 too. Do not copy them, but practise the order game with a grown-up.
