Shop, chop, catch: sh, ch and tch
The letters sh make the sound /ʃ/ as in shop, ship, fish and cash. The letters ch make the sound /tʃ/ as in chop, chip, much and rich. The letters tch also make /tʃ/ and come after a short vowel at the end of a word: catch, watch, kitchen. Some pairs of words sound almost the same but have different meanings: ship – chip; shop – chop; cash – catch; wash – watch. Listen carefully to the first and last sounds. Read the sh, ch and tch words and the tongue twisters on page 83 of your book. The tongue twisters are the book’s own, so say them from the book. Then make your own funny sentences.

Sound sort. The child writes three columns: sh, ch, tch. The grown-up says twelve words (shop, chop, fish, much, catch, watch, ship, chip, wash, rich, match, cash) and the child writes each one in the right column. Then the child makes a sentence with a pair like ship – chip.
