What plants need
Answers are for parents and teachers.
1
Choose a plant near your home. For one week, write how it gets water, air and light.
Answers differ, for example: a mint plant gets water from the family, light from the balcony, and air all around.
2
Draw a poster “What a plant needs” with three arrows pointing to a plant. Label each arrow.
The arrows are labelled water, air and light.
3
Draw a food chain for one thing you ate today. Put arrows from the food to you.
For example: wheat → flatbread → me. The arrows point from the food to the eater.
4
A bean seedling is 1 cm tall on day 2, 3 cm on day 4 and 6 cm on day 6. How much did it grow from day 2 to day 6?
6 − 1 = 5 cm.

Explain to someone at home why a seed can sprout in a wet towel but a growing plant still needs light.
The seed uses food stored inside it to sprout. Later the plant must make food, and for that it needs light.
