Explanation
Say the name of each picture. Listen to the beginning of each word. Two words begin with the same sound. One begins with a different sound. That is the odd one out. Lion and lemon begin with l. Monkey begins with m, so monkey is the odd one out.
Worked examples
Nurse and nest start with n. Kite starts with k. Kite is the odd one out.
Ox and orange start with o. Mango starts with m. Mango is the odd one out.

Class activity
Clap the beginning. A grown-up says three words. When you hear two words with the same first sound, clap. Then say which word is the odd one out.
