Explanation

Our term project is called ‘Share an idea that matters’. Work in a group and share information on one of three topics: why ethics matters when using AI; how e-commerce helps buyers decide well; or how video conferencing helps people share ideas. Plan on paper in eight steps. One: choose the group and the topic. Two: give each member a role that fits their strengths, such as researcher, writer, artist, speaker and checker. Three: choose which creation tools will make your talk appealing: a word processor for a short report, a presentation tool for slides, a flowchart for the plan. Four: list your needs: programs, equipment and network devices. Five: gather sources from a teacher’s list, the school library, a free online library for people in Egypt, reviews, comparison websites or an educational service provider; no live research is needed today. Six: prepare for common digital problems; remember Week 21. Seven: write the step plan and make the final product. Eight: give a short persuasive talk with reasons. Plan everything on paper, with no real photographs and no personal details.

Roles by strengths. Salma writes clearly, so she is the writer. Karim draws neatly, so he is the artist. Habiba has a clear voice, so she is the speaker. Marwan is careful, so he is the checker of facts and sources.

Planning the needs. A group choosing video conferencing lists: software (a video-meeting app, with a grown-up), equipment (a computer, a camera, a microphone) and network devices (a router for the connection). They also list a back-up plan if the connection fails.
A tiny persuasive talk outline. 1: hello and the topic. 2: why it matters. 3: our idea with one example. 4: what to do next. 5: thanks and a question. Each part gets one half-sheet slide.
Class activity

Project checklist. In a group of four, choose one of the three topics and fill a checklist on one big sheet: topic; roles; creation tools; needs (software, equipment, network devices); sources; two common digital problems with first fixes; the final product; and the talk outline in five boxes. Tick each item when it is done. Practise the talk once in about two minutes. Use no real photographs and no personal details.

Practice
1
Name the three topics of the project.
2
How do you choose a role for each group member?
3
Name three kinds of needs for a digital project.
4
Give two sources you may use for the project.
